Easy Ice Cream

We did this at Cub Scout Day Camp with all the little kids in the Tot Lot. It was pretty easy and a big hit. (And it even tastes pretty good!) Here's what you need:

1 Sandwich baggie
1 Gallon baggie
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup Half & Half
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup large salt (like for making ice cream)
Ice

Put sugar, half & half and vanilla in the sandwich baggie. Close tightly. Place ice (about 1 cup) in gallon baggie and sprinkle with salt. Place sandwich baggie in gallon baggie. Close tightly. Shake (or roll in a #10 size can) for about 5 minutes. This makes just enough for a little kid. You could double it for a bigger kid, but would probably have to shake longer. Enjoy!

Free Summer Movies

I am always trying to keep the kids entertained during the summer. One of my all time fave things to do is the free movies that many theaters show. They are normally on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, depending on what theater you go to. Many times, the theaters will do both days and have a choice of movies. They typically all show the same rotation of movies. Here is a quick list of some of the places I've found with free movies.

Free Fa
mily Film Festival at Regal Theaters (United Artists) - Enter your state to see all theaters with free movies and their schedules.

Free Family Film Festival at Rave Motion Pictures - Scroll down to see theaters in your state.

Summer Movie Camp at AMC - This theater charges $1, which benefits the Will Rogers Institute and Variety - The Children's Charity. You can type in your zip code or pick your state in the drop down menu.

Those are the big ones around here. If you know any others, let me know and I'll add them to my list!

Welcome!

This blog has been a while in the making – mostly trying to come up with a name. Really not so good with the names! See, I have been searching and searching for one central place that lists all the fun (and cheap) things to do in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. But, I have never found such a place. As my family loves to get out and try new and exciting (and did I mention cheap?) things, I thought I would just start my own as a resource for others like me.

A lot of this will be tailored with things to do in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, since that is where I live. Sorry for those of you other places! But, I also hope to include fun ideas for crafts, games, holidays, kid recipes, etc. I will try to categorize everything with tags to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. And if you have any ideas to add, feel free to let me know!
